Although technically I moved to Talent when I first arrived in Oregon, Ashland was the town I got to know. Only a few miles away, it was galaxies away from the culture I had always known. My first real initiation into certain aspects of spirituality, health awareness, and communication practices was during that time when I was first living near Ashland.
Ashland is a small town, with one main road paralleling the interstate, right through an artsy downtown that is greatly influenced by the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, which puts on many productions a year. The Sisikiyou Mountains on either side of the small Bear Creek Valley were striped with snow in March when I first arrived, and the fruit trees were in full, colorful bloom. Aside from the natural beauty, there was a distinctive energy about the place. It just felt free.
To this day, Ashland and the greater Rogue and Applegate Valleys remain one of my favorite spots on this earth. And for a mid-sized town, Ashland has classy architecture and landscaping. If you've never been, it's one to visit for sure. No place else like it on Earth!
